Nia is for any body

In my classes I especially emphasise that Nia is for all ages and abilities, sizes and shapes. For those that love to dance and for those with two left feet. Nia is for any-body!

Nia: Questions and Answers:

J.L. (Falkirk): Is Nia suitable if you are over 60 ? I have a little trouble getting up from the floor.

Nia is suitable is you are over 60, 70 or 80 and in fact for any age or ability. Students do the moves big or small, powerfully or intrinsically according to their choice -- and the teacher faces front, so you follow watching me from behind. Much easier and no embarrassment if you choose do something different or make a 'mistake' (but in face there are no mistakes in Nia - except perhaps not to feeling pleasure with your movements....). When we go down to the floor, often at the end of the class, you are welcome to use a sturdy chair to get up or down or to sit on the chair for the floor portion of the class. The class may also be done entirely seated.

P.J. (Crief): I have a second hip replacement, and my niece suffers from fibromyalgia. Would you recommend Nia for us ?

Consider Nia if you are recovering from an illness or operation -- you can be seated or just take things very easy -- whatever your age or abilities you will be very welcome at one of my classes in Perth. Keep your movements small on your first class and please use a chair or wall for balance. Whatever your starting point you will feel welcome and supported in a Nia class. Students have found Nia very valuable for both conditions you mention. Nia doesn’t just tune the body it tones the mind and the nervous system too – and most of all exercises those pleasure buds!

Nia Teaching Practice

Nia is a movement practice. It takes time and dedication to develop the complete set of somatic teaching and movements and have access a lifelong fund of development, training, growth and potential. Nia teachers are encouraged to sense, test-out and experience everything they are taught and share it in class and to craft each individual class with unlimited creativity and transformation from a deepened connection to body, mind, emotions and spirit. A qualified Nia Teacher holds a Nia White Belt and Teaching License and embarks on a lifelong journey progressing through the further Nia belts: Green, Blue, Brown, Black and Black First Degree; as their personal practice dictates. Nia Teachers are dedicated to sharing their personal insights and creativity in their journey with Nia. Rather than a job, it is a calling, and vastly fulfilling too. We are lucky to have a very close-knit and dedicated team of Nia Teachers here in Scotland, with our nearest centre for training and special events being Burntisland in Fife.
