Want to know more about Nia first ?
What is Nia ? - a 30 year old worldwide form of movement for fitness and health (10 years here in Scotland) - adaptable for all kinds of personal goals, age and fitness levels.
Each Nia Teacher brings their own essence to the form inspired and informed by a worldwide and Scottish community of teachers and trainers.
Why have you never heard of Nia ? - it is not pushed as the next and only thing but rather has grown low-profile through, well really, just people loving it. Investment is instead in constant improvement and teacher training.
What is Special about it ? - too much to tell you here - but 3 things are:
-
its more than a fitness class - there a functional fitness and general health & wellbeing technique behind the classes which you can follow everyday and Nia Teachers bring to classs in the form of tips and insights
-
the glorious music
-
the delightful yet effective way we move (ideally barefoot, but shoes are an option)
A Nia class typically lasts about an hour. It is set apart from other exercise programs by its purpose. That is, turning movement into a pleasurable and health-sustaining experience; using movement as medicine to support and sustain ease of movement, cardio health and whole-person well-being. It can be started at any level and progressed with purpose or just experienced weekly.
Consider it for really effective all-round fitness, weight-loss or for recovery from injury, and short or long term illness - all these goals are possible because you can do Nia at your level according to your level of fitness - and you teacher supports you in this.
Classes are daytime and evening with myself in Stirling, Perth and Dunblane, plus other lovely Nia teachers in Scotland, and worldwide.
Ideally the class is best done barefoot, but socks, soft shoes or trainers are also an option. If you want to wear shoes please bring a clean pair to change into as the studios have a clean floor policy. Wear cool loose clothes and bring some water. We do get hot even though the movement is not high intensity; it is very effective, energising and pleasurable.
